TEA GARDENS IN AFRICA

Rooibos: Cedarberg Mountains in South Africa

The Cederberg mountains are a range of mountains predominantly formed of sandstone, situated 200 km to the north of Capetown (South Africa) in the triangle formed by the towns of Clanwilliam, Wupperthal and Citrusdal. The Cederberg region is a very dry area, with the only rain falling in winter (June to October). The expansive, gently hilly land in the high plain of the Cederberg mountains is regarded as the home of Rooibos tea, as this is where the Rooibos plant from which the tea is derived is cultivated almost exclusively.
